Picture Poetry – Not The Time 1. Gun 2. Control

Using the picture and the words, 1. Gun 2. Control, spill your brain and craft your best poem.  This is a very VERY controversial topic so please keep your posts civil.  Post your poem on the Daily Wisdom Words website Picture Poetry page.  Afterwards, share your poem on Twitter or other social media sites.  Tag three of your friends and challenge them to write their own poem!

A symbol of equality
crafted by the hands of the enslaved
one by one we wave and rage
this is freedom, this is our way.

Yet made in Taiwan or Banlgadesh
by little hands not big enough to reach the dash
a history of oppression, murder too
we take what is not ours,
it’s the American thing to do.

Guns on the streets
put there by the CIA & our own police
we sale to other countries & incite war
then when guns come back here
we blame the poor.

Refuse to own our part of the dream
how greed & corruption has taken over the scene.
Scream my 2nd amendment right
yet POC were not even considered human back then,
read the constitution you’ll know I’m right.

A country so wrapped up in our love of guns
we now have to fear other people when we go to have fun
an outing or trip to the store
now must come equipped with a flak vest & more.

I could go on for hours about this,
for a true freedom is what I really wish.

From North of the border,
I watch my American friends
suffer time and again.
A vicious cycle repeating.

Bullets fired from GUNS
are worth more than
LIVES
I hear again and again.

And yet there’s a growing chorus
Of voices.
Young
Old
Female
Male
Gay
Straight
Black
White.

They scream for CONTROL
United against a bigger threat.
They don’t want to hide
Afraid and alone
from angry people who take their rage
like tidal waves
and crash into innocents.

They want change.
Not to take all the GUNS away
But to restrict the types
Create stiffer rules.
What threat is this
to your freedoms,
My GUN owning friends?

They should be free
to feel SAFE
In a Grocery store
In a School
At a Concert
At a Hospital
At a Synagogue
At a Church.

But the NRA has friends
who view CONTROL
as an evil worse than plague
WHICH IT’S NOT.
When did your fellow Americans’ LIVES
come to mean so little?

I see this on my screens
In our papers.
As a Canadian,
I’m thankful for our GUN CONTROL.
I feel SAFE.
If only the change Americans need
would come on swift wings.
I wish you all could feel SAFE
On every day’s journeys.

You see,
I think no man, woman or child
should be afraid to leave their home
for fear of flying bullets
shot from vicious GUNS
hunting them down.

I see the RED, WHITE and BLUE
Today the flag REPRESENTS
GUN CONTROL too
In every CITY and every STATE
Some people racially HATE
Through PROPAGANDA and lives lost
People are KILLED at any cost
Plans are made, A loss of LIFE
BIGOTRY and BLINDNESS
Even their family? And WIFE
A one man DANGEROUS MACHINE
At ANY COST carrying out their SCHEME
HATE And PROPAGANDA
Behind their DRIVE
Their goal is to leave NO ONE ALIVE!
Hate EXTENDS to REFUGEES
These KILLERS driven from the HATE they see
HE PLANS IT OUT WITH AN automatic RIFLE
He is JUDGE, JURY, AND TRIAL
The VICTIMS NEVER GET A SAY
Many lose their lives THRU ONE TRAGIC DAY
#SPREADLOVE instead of hate
STOP MASS SHOOTING before they PROPAGATE

They are gunning for control
Doing majik in the realm of Image, Idea
If they define the terms
They write the sentences
Words, pictures Spelling out fear, conflict
Polarization produces currency
The parasites, Red and Blue gather
Together they stir the cauldron
Greedy gleam in their empty eyes
Already arguing how to divide the Spoils
